About Luxor African Film Festival

I AM Luxor African Film Festival

The Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) is one of ISF’s projects. It was the writer Sayed Fouad’s idea, as the African films are almost not screened in Egypt. Furthermore, Luxor hardly has any cultural or artistic events, and was therefore selected to de-centralize cultural or artistic events always oraginzed in Cairo and Alexandria.
For the first time in Egypt , an NGO organizes an event with such grand caliber and high standards. Independent Shabab Foundation (ISF) which organizes LAFF is a non-profit entity that has been active for more than six years organizing events and festivals at a national level and with a political dimension. The success of ISF is the result of the sound artistic accomplishment and skills of its founders as cultural activists who believe in the necessity and importance of communicating with the world in general and with Africa in particular. It is also built on the capacity of its Board of trustees in representing Egypt in local and international activities.

ISF started working on the festival since mid 2010 and the fruits of our efforts resulted in numerous partnerships ranging from the Ministry of Culture in Egypt to International networks. . .

Awards

    1- Luxor African Film Festival is organized by Independent Shabab Foundation, a civil and nonprofit organization, with support of the Egyptian ministeries of Culture, Tourism and Youth and in collaboration with the Luxor Governorate.

    2- Luxor African Film Festival is an annual event organized at the city of Luxor in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The festival’s 6th edition will take place 17 – 22 of March, 2016.

    3- Luxor African Film Festival will screen long and short films produced in African countries, made by African filmmakers and concerned by African subjects, of 2016 production.

    4- Luxor African Film Festival consists of 4 competitions: Long Narratives, Long Documentaries, Short Films (Narratives and Documentaries) and The International Competition of Freedom Films as well as other special sections.

    5- Festival’s opening film screened is screened out of competition.

    6- Each competition has its own international jury consisting of 5 members.

    7- For The Long Narratives Competition, the jury will grant the following prizes:

    •Nile Grand Prize for Best Long Narrative Film ($2500 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamun)

    •Jury Prize for Long Narrative Film ($1500 and The Silver Mask of Tutankhamun)

    •Best Artistic Achievement Prize in a Long Narrative Film (Certificate of Appreciation and The Bronze Mask of Tutankhamun)

    8- In The Long Documentaries Competition, the jury will grant the following prizes:

    •Nile Grand Prize for Best Long Documentary ($2500 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamun)

    •Jury Prize for Long Documentary ($1500 and The Silver Mask of Tutankhamun)

    •Best Artistic Achievement Prize in a Long Documentary Film (Certificate of Merit and The Bronze Mask of Tutankhamun)

    9- In The Short Films Competition, the jury will grant the following prizes:

    •Nile Grand Award for Best Short Narrative ($1500 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamun)

    •Nile Grand Award for Best Short Documentary ($1500 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamun)

    •Jury Prize for Best artistic Achievement (The Silver Mask of Tutankhamun)

    10- Independent Shabab Foundation will grant Radwan El-Kashef Prize for Best Film reflecting African issues ($1000 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamun)

    11- In The International Competition of Freedom Films, the jury will grant Al-Husseiny Abou-Deif Prize for Best Freedom Film ($1000 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamun), as well as Certificates of Merit for a second and a third film.

    12- It is prohibited to divide any prize or to add to any prize.

    13- Prizes are presented in Dollars or its equivalent of Egyptian Pounds

    14- Film submissions to The Festival are opened from Mid August till mid December 2015 . The deadline for delivering prints of the selected films to the festival’s headquarter is the end of January 2017 ..
