Alassane Sy was born in Mauritania and his family relocated to Senegal in the mid-eighties. Alassane moved to Paris and then later New York, where a career in modelling brought him to the attention of director Andrew Dosunmu who was casting the lead role for his feature film RESTLESS CITY and offered Sy the lead character Djibril. This is how Sy’s acting career began. His directorial debut was the short film MARABOUT, which is currently on the festival circuit and received its world premiere at the 2016 Cathage Festival in Tunis and has received international acclaim.
